India, Pakistan, Iran: What you need to know about the conflict

सुसन धमला

Two weeks ago, Pakistan and Iran got into a fight, threatening world peace and regional stability in South Asia.

Iran attacked the Pakistani soil and wiped out the Balochistan separatists. In response, Pakistan expelled the Iranian ambassador and attacked Iranian soil.

All this happened suddenly. Pakistan and Iran did not have bad relations. There was no reason for the two countries to clash. These events happened suddenly.

Israel-Hamas war, Iran-US war, Yemen's Houthi rebels' actions in the maritime area (Red Sea) and the addition of the Iran-Pakistan war to the troubled region have raised global concerns about what will happen. Suspects about the opening of a new war front began.

However, the tension eased within a few days. Both Iran and Pakistan have felt the mistake. They have also decided to normalize diplomatic relations.

Now this conflict has ended, but in the name of the independence of Baluchistan, efforts are still being made to destabilize the South Asia region itself. India is at the center of such efforts. India has been supporting Pakistan's Baloch separatists.

India itself is a country suffering from separatism, but the Prime Minister of this country, Narendra Modi, stood at the Red Fort in Delhi on Independence Day 6 years ago and announced his support for the Baloch separatists of Pakistan. After that, the Baloch separatist campaign gained new momentum.

It is natural for Pakistan to suffer due to India's actions, but due to India's actions, Iran has also become a victim.

Some groups in Iran and Pakistan have been fighting for decades demanding the independence of Balochistan.

To understand the role of Baloch separatism, India, Pakistan and Iran, it is necessary to understand the role of Baloch.

Importance of Baluchistan

Balochistan, which is a province of Pakistan, is the land of the Baloch tribes. Baloch tribals are also in Iran. Baloch land in Iran and Baloch land in Pakistan are connected.

Balochistan is the richest province of Pakistan in terms of natural resources. Natural resources such as minerals and oil are abundant here.

Balochistan occupies 41 percent of the total land area of Pakistan. But only 6 percent of the country's population of 240 million live in this place.

Balochistan is also connected to the coastal region of the Arabian Sea along with Iran and Taliban-controlled Afghanistan.

This area is named after the Baloch tribals who have been living here for hundreds of years. A number of Baloch also live in the provinces near the borders of Iran and Afghanistan.

The geopolitical importance of Balochistan is also very big. The famous Gwadar port is located in the province of Baluchistan. China has built a road connecting Pakistan from Tibet to reach the Arab region by land as an alternative to the Malacca Strait. That road reaches Gwadar port. Gwadar port was built by China with an investment of billions of dollars.

The route from Tibet to Gwadar through Pakistan is called CPEC. CPEC is one of the biggest projects of China's Belt and Road project.

China is also conducting mining related projects in Balochistan. Also, China is building an international airport in Gwadar. CPEC project and Gwadar Port are considered to be connected not only with China's present but also with its destiny and future. It is said that India and the US are trying to create instability in Balochistan to deter China.

Canadian mining company Barrack Gold owns 50 percent of Reco Dig, which is said to be the world's largest copper and gold mine under construction in Balochistan.

A meaningless fight

The world was shocked when the war between Pakistan and Iran started. It was commented worldwide that Iran, which is engaged in a 'proxy war' with the US and Israel, opening a new war front with Pakistan is not only impractical but also suicidal.

Pakistan said that two children were killed when Iran attacked Pakistan on January 16. Soon after, Pakistan launched two missiles at Iran. Iran claimed that nine people lost their lives.

Iran claimed that the attack targeted the Jaish al-Adal militant group active against its country. Similarly, Pakistan also claimed that the attack was against two militant groups in Iran, the Balochistan Liberation Army and the Balochistan Liberation Front.

According to Pakistan, the militants of these two groups were hiding in Iran and Pakistan attacked that place.

Pakistan attacked Iran for the first time since 1980. That is also a counter attack.

On that day, Iran did not attack Pakistan alone. Iran also attacked different places in Iraq and Syria on the same day.

An insurgent organization active in Balochistan

Although there are several rebel groups in Balochistan province, two groups are the most active. They are BLF and BLA.

It is claimed that these groups are active against Pakistan while staying in Pakistani soil. But Pakistan has been claiming that both organizations are hiding in Iran and Afghanistan.

Pakistan claims that the government of Iran has sheltered the leaders and rebels of these groups. Iran has denied this.

Pakistan has claimed that India is also providing financial support to some groups active in Balochistan. But India also refutes such claims.

Pakistan and Iran have a long border of about 900 km. Its security management has been a concern for both countries for a long time.

Stress is relaxed but...

The tension between Iraq and Pakistan has eased, both countries have normalized relations, but this case has shown the fact that the peace and stability of the region is in danger.

The countries of this region, India, Pakistan and Iran, are heavily militarizing, while Afghanistan is ruled by the extreme right-wing Taliban. From there, civil war is going on in Yemen and Syria in the western part, while the war is going on between Israel and Hamas in the Gaza Strip. There is a strong possibility of a war between Iran and the US or between Iran and Israel in this war and tension-ridden region.

Although the tension between Pakistan and Iran has eased, it is not seen that the region will be able to return to peace immediately.
